When I was a child, and I had been especially pleasant or sweet, my mother would refer to me as 'Mon Petit Chou Fleur'. I used to think that it must mean something abolsutely adorable. It turns out it actually means 'my little cauliflower'.

Now I have two little cauliflowers of my own, who I'll refer to as Clementine and Bean. This blog hopes to capture a slice of their childhood, whilst also providing something useful for other parents.

We are Lucy, Sam, Clementine and Bean. A little family growing in sunny Brighton.

When I was little, my mother (who is, incidentally, not at all French) used to call my brother and I 'mon petit chou fleur' when we were being particularly pleasant or sweet. I always thought it must mean something really lovely. It turns out it actually means 'My little cauliflower'. I decided to name this blog after that, because parenting can be just as surprising and confusing as this revelation, and because it captures a slice of my own childhood.

I'll mainly be writing about the joys and woes of parenthood, looking after a baby boy, parenting a stepdaughter, and giving honest opinions about the products I choose to use, and the places we choose to go.

As both my partner and I are English teachers, I've decided not to use our full names on this blog. I also decided not to use the children's first names at all, since I think it's up to them to decide when they want their own web presence. I'm going to be referring to the children as our own little fruits and vegetables- 'Clementine' and 'Bean'.
